10 miles on some trails in Farmington, Fruit Heights area.  I had never been on them before and got lost a couple of times but it was fun and I even found the connection to the trail system in East Layton that I was looking for.

20 miles out to Antelope Island-around the island- and back.  Great long run.  A few things you should know about the island...

1. The causeway is not 3 or 4 miles long like I thought it was- it's a full 7.  That means that I ran 14 miles on the causeway and only 6 on the island (I started at the entrance in west Syracuse).  Next time I'll ride my bike to the island or something.

2. If you don't run or walk through the entrance it's 9 bucks just to drive in.It's 3 dollars even if you want to get yourself there on foot which I find incredibly ridiculous.  Anyone who can get there by running or walking should get to see the island for free.

3. There are several bathroom locations which are extremely valuable on a long run.

4. No bugs today but there will be soon.

5. Lots of bison who are kind of trail hogs.  I had to pick a new route 3 times because of the bison.  The antelope are not trail hogs. They gave me lots of room.

I ran a 5k today down in Pleasant Grove.  I signed up for it clear back in February as my first race of the year (even though I ended up doing the Strider's Half).  I won a membership to Gold's Gym.  I was kind of using that as my motivation and didn't think I could really make it in the money at the Salt Lake half.  This was a fun, low key race and it was done really well so I felt like it was a very successful morning.

I met Derek Moody who I knew about but had never really spoken to- He ended up finishing just right behind me and pushing me through the race- and we even cooled down a little together at the end.

The course was exactly 3.14 miles on my Garmin which always makes me happy. Apparently I have one race pace now and that's half marathon pace because this felt really fast and uncomfortable.  In the middle of the race I was kind of talking to myself and thinking how silly I was for not doing any speed or threshold work and thinking I could feel comfortable at 5:00 miles. So, I've got some 5k work to do but I'm enjoying my running and looking forward to the next few weeks.
