I wasn't planning on racing but my dad had to drop out and Strider's was kind enough to switch his name with mine.  Even if my training hasn't been great I can't turn down a free race.  I went out conservatively and didn't want to push it early on.  I was quite a ways back from the main group at 6 miles and thought that is where I would finish for sure.  Slowly but surely I could see I was making up some distance and the group was splitting up at the front.  I think going out conservatively really helped today and I was able to catch a few guys by the end.

I love these high quality local races.  It's a lot of fun to see so many friends before and after the race and hear about how guys are training through injuries or running PR's and everything else that happens with running and life.  Glad I decided to give it  a try today and happy with the result.

nice job. i think the conservative start is the right approach for this course. those final 4-5 miles are pretty mean. congrats on the 3rd place finish and the great time.

Very impressive finish to run alone for so much of the race and then catch people.

It was nice to meet you on Saturday. Congrats on a good race and for picking folks off at the end of the race. It definitely feels better to be passing rather than being passed :-)

I'm sure I'll see you right in the mix of the front pack in future races.

Thanks everyone!

It was nice to meet you too Scott! I've followed your blog the last few months and look forward to seeing you at a few more races this year.
